Teddy, Janet, and little Trouble are never far from adventure, and in The Curlytops and Their Pets, their ordinary days quickly turn into a whirl of comic mishaps, animal surprises, and family excitement. From toy-ship battles in a brook to a mysterious letter from Uncle Toby Bardeen, the Curlytops are drawn into a larger puzzle involving an old mansion, a strange collection, and a journey to Pocono that promises answers. Along the way, Trouble's baby talk and fearless curiosity keep everyone on edge, whether he is drifting away in a box "ship," bursting a balloon, or meddling with the family's growing menagerie. Teddy and Janet delight in the animals too, especially Snuff the cat, who performs circus-like tricks, and Slider the tame alligator, whose appearance leads to a startling misunderstanding with a neighbor's baby carriage. But the pets are not always so well behaved: white rats and mice escape into a bakery, causing alarm and damage. Warm family bonds, playful imagination, and gentle suspense carry this lively children's tale from one charming crisis to the next.
