Twenty-eight years after a warehouse fire ended in a murder conviction, investigative journalist Nora Bell discovers that one of the case’s most basic facts may never have been true.
With retired police officer Martin Hale, she begins rebuilding the night from old records, forgotten testimony, and evidence that everyone thought had already been understood. What emerges is not a single grand conspiracy, but something more unsettling: real facts, attached to the wrong people, arranged in the wrong order, and reinforced for years by fear, silence, and ordinary human choices.
As the identity of the dead woman comes apart, so does the story that sent an innocent man to prison.
All the Evidence Was There is a layered literary mystery about memory, justice, institutional error, and the dangerous difference between having the evidence and understanding what it means.
