Millicent Fleming was born to innovate, but the world was built to stop her.

From age twelve, Millicent Fleming was fascinated by the hum of innovation and industrialization as a path to future progress and improvement. At age nineteen in 1887, when she entered the Hargrove & Sons hosiery mill, she saw a system she could perfect, believing that her mixed heritage wouldn't matter as much as her mind.

Possessing a natural skill for streamlining production and elevating those around her, Millicent quickly becomes an invisible force for good. She finds herself caught between the two brother-owners, one with her own innovative spirit and the other clinging to a dying tradition.

As she realizes that the system despises both her identity and her talent, she learns that humanity is the catalyst for understanding and acceptance.

Millicent's Innocence is an exploration of identity, the cost of ambition, and the enduring strength of human connection. It is the story of a woman who stopped trying to fit into a cruel world and opened her heart to start building a world of her own.
