**Complete Fiction of Lu Xun** gathers all of Lu Xun’s canonical fictional works, the cornerstone of modern Chinese literature, translated by Arthur Peng. This comprehensive volume includes every short story from *Call to Arms*, *Wandering*, and *Old Tales Retold*, bringing Lu Xun’s piercing literary vision to English-speaking readers.

Writing amid China’s turbulent early 20th century, Lu Xun dissects a society trapped between outdated feudal traditions and painful social transformation. With razor-sharp satire, restrained grief, and profound compassion for the downtrodden, his tales lay bare ignorance, hypocrisy, poverty and spiritual numbness. Featured masterpieces include *Diary of a Madman*, China’s first modern short story, and *The True Story of Ah Q*, the iconic tragic satire that has resonated across generations. Other beloved works such as *The New Year’s Sacrifice* expose the cruelty imposed on ordinary individuals by rigid social customs.

Far more than historical snapshots, these timeless stories probe universal human flaws, moral cowardice and the longing for human dignity. Arthur Peng’s translation preserves Lu Xun’s terse, powerful tone without over-simplification, letting readers directly encounter the weight and urgency of his writing. For lovers of world literature, this complete collection unlocks the legacy of a writer whose critique of society remains hauntingly relevant today.
