First published in 1911, at the height of Robert W. Chambers' popularity, 'The Girl Philippa' is a stirring romance of adventure and intrigue set in the disputed borderlands of Alsace-Lorraine, where French hearts beat under German rule and every border crossing holds a secret. Here Chambers — the celebrated author of 'The King in Yellow' — brings his gift for atmosphere and suspense to a tale of loyalty, courage, and unexpected love, complete with the period charm that made him one of the best-selling American novelists of his generation. This edition returns the novel to print exactly as it appeared for its earliest readers: the COMPLETE, UNABRIDGED original text, preceded by a new introduction placing the book in its historical and literary context, and accompanied by reader's notes illuminating the people, places, and politics of a vanished frontier. Whether you are discovering Chambers beyond his famous weird tales or returning to an old favorite, this is the definitive reading copy. Part of The Founding Texts Library.
