Crash-landed on the red sands of Mars, astronaut Dick Jarvis sets out across an alien wilderness — and meets Tweel, a companion unlike anything science fiction had imagined before. First published in 1934, Stanley G. Weinbaum's 'A Martian Odyssey' is the story that taught the genre how to dream of true first contact: a silicon-based creature building impossible pyramids, a beast that lures prey with visions of home, and a friendship that crosses the gap between minds without a single shared word. This edition reproduces the complete, unabridged original text exactly as it appeared, paired with a new introduction and reader's notes that illuminate Weinbaum's remarkable life, the story's place in pulp-era Mars fiction, and its lasting influence on generations of writers. Funny, eerie, and unexpectedly moving, it remains one of the most beloved short works of science fiction's golden age. Part of The Founding Texts Library.
