What if your own healing journey became the beginning of someone else's?
If you are reading this, there is a good chance God is stirring something new in your heart. Perhaps He is calling you to serve, to lead, or to walk alongside women who are searching for hope, healing, and deeper connection. Whether your passion is ministering to motherless daughters or serving women facing life's many challenges, welcome. I believe you are here for a purpose.
While Guiding Groups to Greatness was developed through more than two decades of experience leading Motherless Daughters Ministry groups, the principles in this manual extend far beyond one ministry. Healthy facilitation is universal. Whether you lead healing groups, Bible studies, women's ministry gatherings, recovery groups, leadership development programs, grief support, or educational workshops, these skills will help you build groups where women feel safe, respected, heard, and encouraged to grow.
“One of the beautiful truths about ministry is that while we help others heal, God continues His healing work within us. Facilitating a group is not only an opportunity to serve—it is an opportunity to continue growing in faith, compassion, wisdom, and purpose.”
This manual is the same resource we use to train new Motherless Daughters Ministry Facilitators. Throughout the manual, the material is written as though you are entering and participating in our course. Experiencing the curriculum as a participant allows you to better understand the healing process before guiding others through it. The exercises, discussion questions, and facilitation principles can easily be adapted for churches, women's ministries, Bible studies, support groups, recovery ministries, nonprofit organizations, and community groups serving women from many different backgrounds and life experiences.
As you move through this manual, think of each section as building upon the one before it.
Part I-A explores your calling and role as a faith-based facilitator.
Part I- B explores how you can help or hinder a group
Part II equips you to understand group dynamics, communication, and creating emotionally safe environments.
Part III-A provides the practical tools, skills, and confidence needed to effectively facilitate groups with excellence and compassion.
Part III -B provides the essential planning steps to be considered before you begin a course.
In addition to these sections, you will find two valuable resources designed to support your learning and future ministry.
The Toolkit provides step-by-step instructions for completing the exercises, activities, and facilitation tasks referenced throughout this manual. Think of it as your practical guide for putting the concepts you are learning into action.
The Appendix connects you with additional resources to strengthen your ministry, including reference articles, a facilitator job description, a comprehensive bibliography, and the Scriptures referenced throughout the manual. These resources are intended to deepen your understanding and provide ongoing support for years to come.
Finally, don't miss the Acknowledgements. Recognized are the many individuals whose wisdom, expertise, encouragement, and faithful service helped shape Guiding Groups to Greatness. This manual is the result of a collaborative effort and a shared commitment to equipping Christian leaders to serve women with excellence, compassion, and biblical truth.
This manual is more than learning how to lead a discussion. It is an invitation to become the kind of leader who helps women discover hope, experience transformation, and recognize God's faithfulness in every season of life.
