THE MAKING OF ELON MUSK is not simply the story of what Elon Musk built. It is the story of what building built in him.

From his first code, BLASTAR, through Zip2, PayPal, SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink, X, DOGE, and the proposed Terafab, Harry Klaus traces the ventures that shaped Musk’s operating method: control critical systems, own more of the stack, question inherited costs, move faster than convention allows, and concentrate authority when delay becomes the enemy.

But every method carries a price.

Across eighteen ventures and four decades, the book examines extraordinary results alongside the human, financial, and institutional costs that accompanied them. It asks where Musk’s methods succeeded, where they failed, and what happened when a system built around concentrated control encountered institutions designed to resist it.

A critical study of ambition, engineering, power, and a man transformed by his own creations.
