She reads Cole Reinholt's objection in her room five days into camp. Four paragraphs, formal language, three stated concerns — all on the Hockey Canada record. He filed it eight weeks before camp began.

Maren Haas, captain of the Canadian women's national team, center, PWHL Minnesota Frost, knows exactly what the document says. He argues against a category. She is not the category. She has twenty-six days to prove it.

She's not asking Cole to change his mind. She's going to give him enough evidence that he has no choice but to correct what he filed. She understands the difference.

Cole is the best center in the men's Olympic program and the only person in the facility who doesn't know Maren has read every word. He was assigned as her training partner before he knew what she was actually there to prove. He runs every session correctly. He maintains every professional distance.

And he watches her.

He didn't account for what watching — really watching — would cost him.

Twenty-six days. Every drill. Every passing lane she creates that he cannot account for. He said she shouldn't be there. He put it in writing. And every day she proves him wrong, she makes the record harder and harder to leave uncorrected.

On the Record is a slow-burn rivals to lovers hockey romance featuring a PWHL-era female athlete heroine, he falls first, and a guaranteed happy ending.
