Description & Overview

Some things we lose never truly leave us.

At 4:45 in the morning, Junho opens his small noodle shop behind the bus terminal. It is an unusual place: half noodle kitchen, half laundry, filled with the scents of anchovy broth, hot metal, detergent, and steam.

An old radio is always tuned to a frequency that barely comes through. Junho likes the static because it asks nothing of him. He also has a habit of smoothing the collar of every shirt exactly three times.

Then, one morning, the doorbell rings.

No one is there.

Soon afterward, Junho receives a call from the nursing home where his mother lives. Her condition has worsened, and there may not be many chances left for her to say the things she has kept inside for so long.

A forgotten notebook. An old photograph. A broken jade hairpin. And the name of someone his mother has been searching for.

Piece by piece, these traces draw Junho toward a past he never knew existed.

As he follows them, he begins to uncover a story of separation, regret, and a promise that has survived for decades.

And at the heart of it all is a simple question:

What do we do with all the things that were never finished?

Two Bowls of Steam is a quiet, deeply moving story about family, loss, forgiveness, and the small rituals that help us continue living. Through the sounds of simmering broth, radio static, a delicate wind chime, and the soft hiss of an iron, it explores how grief can remain hidden in ordinary things—and how love sometimes waits for us in the smallest of gestures.

Tender without being sentimental, Two Bowls of Steam is a story for anyone who has lost someone, carried an unanswered question, or discovered that saying goodbye does not always mean letting go.
