On a barren frontier world where survival depends on science, a generation of children is raised to become something new: Martians. Carefully adapted from birth to breathe thinner air, endure brutal cold, and thrive under alien skies, they are the perfect colonists for humanity's last great hope. But Fredric Brown's sharp, unsettling tale is not merely about conquering Mars. It is about what happens when a grand experiment in human adaptation collides with pride, resentment, and the darkest instincts of a young civilization. As the children grow into the planet's first true natives, the future of Mars begins to look far less certain than the planners ever imagined. Told with chilling economy and a devastating twist, Keep Out is a classic science fiction story of colonization, identity, and rebellion. Brown transforms a bold vision of interplanetary expansion into a tense and unforgettable warning about the cost of shaping people to fit a world—and the danger of believing that progress can control human nature.
