THE TWENTY-FOUR INNER DEITIES presents an illustrated English interpretation of the Daoist scripture 洞玄靈寶二十四生圖經 (Dongxuan Lingbao Scripture of the Twenty-Four Diagrams of Life).

The text describes the human body as a sacred inner cosmos divided into three regions—the Upper, Middle, and Lower Divisions of Eight Luminaries—within which twenty-four inner deities are contemplated.

This edition preserves the original Chinese names while providing clear English explanations of each deity’s bodily location, symbolic color, style name, and interpretive meaning. Full-page illustrations allow the reader to approach the system visually as well as textually.

The volume also includes a complete correspondence between the Twenty-Four Inner Deities and the Twenty-Four True-Qi Diagrams, together with a comparative table showing similarities and differences between this Lingbao system and the Twenty-Four Deities of the Taiwei tradition.

Rather than treating these figures as modern anatomical entities, the book presents them within the symbolic body cosmology of classical Daoism. It offers readers a rare visual guide to the relationship between Heaven, Qi, life, and the human body in the Daoist tradition.
