A vanished map. Buried silver. One impossible well—and nowhere safe to draw the line.

Before dawn in Chile's high desert, fifty-two-year-old hydrogeologist Dr. Isabel Rojas finds water moving through a production well the official record calls inactive—and places kilometers away. Nearby, a survey tack matches a mark tied to a suspicious European provenance file.

Forty-eight-year-old Welsh historical cartographer Owen Hart arrives under a narrow Chilean mandate to examine the private 1896 Araya Survey, rumored to lead to the Caja de los Treinta: thirty numbered silver assay ingots and a missing miners' mutual-aid ledger. But Isabel knows the desert is not empty land waiting to be claimed, and Owen knows an authentic map can still be used to legitimize a lie.

As field tests, old railway markers, altered records, and covert ore traffic pull them toward a hidden route beneath the mountains, professional distrust gives way to a mature, deeply felt attraction. Yet the closer they come to the truth, the more dangerous the landscape becomes—and the more carefully they must decide who has the right to see what they uncover.

The Map Under Stone blends a lost-map treasure hunt, archaeology-flavored desert adventure, mining-fraud suspense, fair-play clues, and a sensual romance between two brilliant professionals over forty.
