A comet is about to hit the planet, ending all life. Evacuation plans go awry as communications fail. A chartered space-ship that was supposed to pick up the wealthy elite, instead, rescues a low income community - thugs, street kids and all. Captain Steinberg is okay with that option. He believes, "The poor and the down-and-outs have as much right to life as those who think they can buy it."

Things happen that would make one consider that perhaps there was wisdom in rescuing only the upper class, as originally planned, but the captain has no regrets. In spite of incidents of violence, of coercion, kidnapping, attempted murder, he gets to know people with hearts of gold.

I felt this story is a gripping, surprising sci-fi adventure that flips the survival narrative on its head…
...In my opinion, the author Robby Charters excels at creating flawed but deeply human characters, and the twists, conflicts, and moments of heart kept me hooked to the end.

This is very much a character-driven story...Even side characters in the story feel relatable enough that when something happens to them, it actually lands…
… Grief follows them into space. And to make things worse… the worst people survived too. Abusers. Extremists. People who thrive on power…

A well-rounded book about humanity's response…
The scenes are told mainly through pointed dialogue, and the realistic characters are from all walks of life… mainly from the economically strained classes, who maneuver their way into space…

Among the survivors are a stowaway street kid, an autistic savant, a disgraced scientist who predicted the disaster, and a priest who had the gut feeling the scientist was right but that they would survive. But scattered among them are drug dealers, gangsters, and even Nazis who tried to make it a whites-only trip, so the journey to their new planet is far from smooth. As they face new challenges and unexpected dangers, they realize that the small, unlikely heroes may hold the key to their survival.

… the kids. They protect each other. They form these lil alliances that feel more realish.
And that hit me right in the chest.
