Cade Brannon has lost nearly everything that once gave his life meaning—his marriage, his peace, his faith, and finally his desire to keep living. Sitting alone with a loaded gun and a goodbye letter, Cade believes his story is finished.

Then a television preacher says something that stops him cold: before giving up, open a Bible and read the words of Jesus for yourself.

Reluctantly, Cade does.

What begins as a desperate act becomes a journey through the red-letter words of Christ—words that confront his failures, expose his pain, and slowly awaken something he thought was gone forever: hope.

But redemption does not erase consequences. Cade must face the people he hurt, rebuild broken relationships, confront the man he used to be, and learn that faith is more than a moment of emotion—it is a life of surrender, forgiveness, and change.

When I Read the Red Letters is a moving Christian novel about a broken man discovering that even when life feels finished, grace can still write another chapter.
