Every meaningful argument in modern life eventually becomes a conversation about money, and the modern dating app experience is no exception. After years inside the apps, swiping through an ocean of gym selfies and fish photos, the author has arrived at a conclusion that feels both petty and deeply justified: the dating apps owe us compensation. Not for the subscription fees, although those belong on the ledger, and not for the mediocre cocktails, although those are on the bill too, but for something far more expensive than money. They owe us for the hours spent composing opening lines that were never answered, for the hope extended to men who described themselves as fluent in sarcasm, and for the quiet Sunday evenings spent staring at a screen engineered to make us feel both invisible and guilty.
This book is a formal demand, an itemized grievance, and a comedic field guide all in one. It names the mechanisms, decodes the profile bios, and shows you exactly where the compensation is owed and how to collect it. You are not the customer and you are not the product, and it is past time to understand what you actually are.
Inside, you'll discover:
• The invoice, the ghosting files, and the full taxonomy of disappearances
• The gym selfie economy and the fish photo, fully explained
• The man who is fluent in sarcasm, and the museum of bio cliches
• The opening line lottery and the first message as a conversation
• The unmatch rituals and the group chat tribunal
• The algorithm that was never built for your happiness
• A field guide to walking away with your dignity intact
This book will not teach you how to win the app, because winning the app is not the same as winning at love. What it will do is make you clear eyed, appropriately suspicious, and considerably more amused, and that is the compensation you have been missing. The case is closed, and the compensation is yours.
