Gallup, New Mexico. April 1986.

Nine-year-old Anthonette Cayedito is the dependable oldest sister—the one who watches over the younger girls, remembers to lock the door, and notices the things adults overlook.

Then, in the darkest hours before morning, someone knocks.

A man outside claims to be a trusted relative. Anthonette approaches the door, and within moments, she is gone.

As the search spreads across the desert, investigators uncover conflicting memories, unexplained visitors, and secrets hidden inside the family's home. The case slowly grows cold—until a frightened child calls the police and identifies herself as Anthonette. Before she can reveal where she is, a man's voice interrupts the call.

Years later, a desperate message discovered hundreds of miles away suggests that someone is still waiting to be found.

Inspired by true events, An Innocence Taken is a haunting psychological suspense novel about a stolen childhood, a family fractured by silence, and the terrifying scenario that will keep kids from opening the door to just anybody.
