Fourteen-year-old Aliʻi has always wondered what lies beyond the Blue Line. But when he is kidnapped by the criminal crew of a cargo ship called the Sea Serpent and sold to the king of the Island of White Lava, his dream of adventure becomes a dangerous fight for freedom.

The island lies beneath a terrible curse. Laughter and hope have vanished under the shadow of a foreboding castle, and no voice can be trusted. If Aliʻi is ever to find his way home, he must rely on his courage, his kindness, and the ancient wisdom of the islands—and learn to trust in the right truth.

Filled with adventure, friendship, Hawaiian words and meanings, and the warmth of a brave young heart, The Island of White Lava is a magical coming-of-age fantasy for young readers and everyone who believes hope can bring warmth to even the coldest place.
