I was hired to keep Jude Penn in line for the length of this road trip.
My authority over him is the entire reason I have a job.

He is fighting to hold his family's team against men who want it broken up.
He has never shared a room with anyone. This trip he has no choice.
Three nights ago I stood behind him while he worked the key card into the lock. Close enough that he felt me breathe on his neck.
He stopped moving. He did not turn around. Then the door opened.

That is the shame of it. Not the room. That I have stopped moving to the far edge of the mattress.
He says my name in the dark, half asleep, and I stay exactly where I am.

Tonight is another city and another single key card.
The door closes. The light goes off. His hand finds my hip and neither of us takes it away.
Rivals are circling that franchise, my credibility rests on holding this line, and I count the innings until we are back in the room.
One word from a teammate and his legacy is gone. So is my career.
What is left of my job if I turn toward him? What is left of me if I do not?

A full-length only one bed close quarters sports erotic novel featuring a team minder and the ballplayer she was hired to control.
