One careless wish. One year in her shoes. One life that may be harder to give up than expected.

Daren Hayes thinks he understands his wife, Lana. He understands their marriage, their new Miami home, and even why she insists on wearing a pair of gorgeous gold heels that look far more comfortable from his side of the room.

Then Lana laughs and says the wrong words near an old brass lamp:

She wishes he knew how hard it was to walk in her shoes.

The genie takes her literally.

In seconds, Daren becomes Darla—a beautiful woman with a body she doesn't recognize and a life reality insists has always been hers. Her marriage to Lana has vanished from everyone else's memory. Darla now has a condo in Brickell, a career, a closet full of women's clothes…and Jake, the handsome boyfriend who knows exactly how to make her new body respond.

Lana's rewritten life has changed too.

With the lamp refusing another wish until the anniversary, Darla and Lana have one year to survive the lives created for them—and decide whether they truly want their old world back.

But a year is long enough for fear to become curiosity, strangers to become lovers, and temporary lives to start feeling dangerously permanent.

As Darla learns what it really means to live, love, and desire from the other side of the wish, one question becomes impossible to avoid:

When the genie finally returns, will she ask to become Daren again?

Or has she finally found the life she wants?
