The morning does not wait for a king's permission.

For generations in the Grand Coop of Aethelgard, the roosters have claimed absolute dominion over the sky. Perched upon high crossbeams wearing crowns of twisted thistles, the monarchs demand blind obedience, declaring that without their sacred dawn calls, the sun would freeze beneath the earth. But when King Barnaby loses the count, leaving seventy birds shivering in the dark, a quiet speckled hen named Celeste does the unthinkable.

She opens her eyes, feels the true pulse of the valley, and crows.

The golden light bursts through the cedar slats, shattering centuries of tradition and exposing a kingdom built on fear, hoarding, and mechanical lies. Yet tearing down a false crown is only the beginning. As entrenched bureaucrats weaponize the grain ledgers and a battle-scarred general seals the coop into a suffocating dark bunker to hide from circling hawks, Celeste and an alliance of ordinary birds must learn what freedom truly demands.

When a brutal autumn deluge tears the barn open and the seductive luxury of a neighboring orchard threatens to buy their submission, Aethelgard must choose: starve in pride, bow for sweet handouts, or bleed together in the cold red clay to build a wall of stone, bone, and solidarity.

In the tradition of Animal Farm and Watership Down, Beyond the Sun-Caller is a gripping, earthy, and heartfelt political fable about truth, shared resilience, and the courage it takes to live in the open light.
