This episode recounts two campaigns in which Sima Shi and his brother resisted Shu and attacked Wu. Seizing the opportunity of Sun Quan's illness and subsequent death, Sima Shi launched an expedition against Wu but was defeated at Dongxing by Wu's seasoned general, Ding Feng. Taking advantage of their victory, Wu formed an alliance with Shu Han to attack Cao Wei from both sides. Jiang Wei advanced southward to capture Nan'an and besiege the Wei army. Sima Zhao was trapped on Tielong Mountain and managed to escape with his life only thanks to the relief forces led by Guo Huai, the defending general of Nan'an.
