This episode narrates the story of Liu Zhang, Governor of Yizhou, learned that Zhang Lu of Dongchuan intended to invade Xichuan. He dispatched Zhang Song to Xuchang to seek assistance from Cao Cao. Frustrated by Cao Cao's arrogance and rudeness, Zhang Song instead traveled to Jingzhou to meet Liu Bei, presenting him with the Xichuan map and urging him to conquer Xichuan. Liu Bei, under the pretext of jointly resisting Zhang Lu, marched his troops into Shu, stationing them at Jiameng Pass to await the right moment.
