1574.
Klara was eighteen when she left home to visit her brother.
She never arrived.
On the lonely road through the Rhineland, she witnessed a man kill a stranger.
Then he sees her.
Christman Genipperteinga took her to the mountains.
He took her freedom.
He took her future.
He took her name.
For seven years, Klara lives in a cave with a man responsible for hundreds of deaths. She learns the sounds of his footsteps. The moods in his voice. The things that anger him. The things that please him.
She learns how to survive.
But survival comes at a price.
Because every day she must look at the man who destroyed her life and pretend to be the woman he has created.
But Klara is still there.
Waiting.
Watching.
Remembering.
Christman believes he knows her. He believes seven years have taught him everything there is to know about the woman in his cave.
He is wrong.
Because while he has been counting his victims, Klara has been learning him.
And when the moment finally comes, she will have one chance to take back the life, the name and the future he stole from her.
Based on the true story of Christman Genipperteinga, The Name He Gave Her is a dark historical tale of captivity, obsession, survival and identity — and of one woman's refusal to disappear.
