Ted and Janet Martin, the Curlytops, are ready for winter play when they and their friends Tom and Lola Taylor invent a backyard toboggan slide and turn an ordinary hill into a thrilling ride. Their homemade fun brings the series' trademark blend of childhood ingenuity, neighborhood companionship, and comic peril, especially when baby Trouble keeps wandering into danger and turning every game into a rescue. As snow arrives, the children are swept into a season of sledding, snowmen, pillow fights, and cozy suppers at Uncle Toby's warm country home, where his strange but affectionate household of pets adds to the merriment. Yet the holiday cheer is shadowed by worries about the Martins' business troubles and the possibility of leaving home before Christmas. Amid the laughter, the children also befriend Mary Benton, a shy girl from a troubled background, and respond to her with growing kindness. From runaway monkeys and feisty parrots to missing children, barber-shop escapades, floods, telegrams, and a trip toward Crystal Lake, every chapter mixes suspense, slapstick, and warmth as the Curlytops face winter adventures and family uncertainty together.
