Aria Patel plans to follow every rule during her family’s trip to California’s towering redwood forest.

Pickles has other ideas.

When the curious dog races into the woods, Aria, Mateo, Tessa, and seven-year-old Frank follow, expecting to bring him right back. Instead, loose ground sends the children sliding down a steep hill they can’t climb again. With the familiar trail now far above them, they must find another way back to their families.

The enormous trees all look alike, fog is beginning to gather, and everyone has a different idea about what to do next. For Aria, who has Auditory Processing Disorder, understanding her friends becomes especially difficult when they panic and talk over one another. But Aria also notices important details the others miss.

It’s just us kids and one very curious dog.
