This episode tells how Lei Heng, the militia captain of Yuncheng County, killed Bai Xiuying and was escorted to Jizhou for trial, but was secretly released by Zhu Tong and joined Liangshan. Zhu Tong was later exiled to Cangzhou, and Lei Heng and Wu Yong used a stratagem to persuade Zhu Tong to join Liangshan as well. Chai Jin was bullied by Yin Tianxi, and Li Kui beat Yin Tianxi to death. As a result, Chai Jin was brutally beaten by Gao Lian, the prefect of Gaotang Prefecture, and thrown into prison. Chao Gai and Song Jiang then led their men to attack Gaotang Prefecture. Gao Lian sent men out of the city to seek reinforcements, but Wu Yong turned the enemy's own scheme against them, captured Gaotang Prefecture, killed Gao Lian, and Li Kui rescued Chai Jin from a dry well.
