Kabir, the fifteenth-century weaver-saint of Banaras, sang of a God beyond name, form, and creed. His poems—at once fierce and tender, plain-spoken and ecstatic—cut through ritual and dogma to the living heart of devotion. This modern-English edition renders his songs in clear, present-day language while keeping faith with their original spirit: the longing of the soul for the Beloved, the laughter at caste and ceremony, the urgent call to wake from the dream of the world. Whether you come to Kabir for the first time or return to him as an old friend, these verses speak directly to the seeker in every tradition. The Songs of Kabir is a cornerstone of world mystical literature, and this edition makes it newly accessible to today's readers. Part of The Founding Texts Library.
