Humorous stories of "old bachelors" who, at balls, wine bars, on the street, and elsewhere, try—sometimes successfully, sometimes not—to get closer to the opposite sex. For some men, the pursuit of women gradually becomes a purpose, a pastime, and eventually even a sport, which they begin to engage in systematically and over the long term. According to some reviews, the book is full of witty (though often almost tragicomic) tales of eternal bachelors, who reveal in detail all the tricks and techniques once used in the not-so-distant pre-Internet era for their successful—and often hopeless—"weaponless hunts." It can serve both as entertainment and as a lesson. For single men, it may offer inspiration and guidance in dating; for women, it provides a glimpse into the male soul and psyche.
