If Eons In A Moment is the instant that holds still, this is the one that breaks apart. Smithereens In A Moment gathers dated, place-stamped poems from Shaun J Apple's years in motion, from Inner Mongolia in 2007 onward. Each carries a time and often a country, so the collection reads like a travel journal of the interior, scattered on purpose. These are confessional pieces about euphoria and its long tail, memory, friendship, and a heart that becomes, for a moment, transparent. They are honest about drugs and the contexts that make them dangerous or survivable, in the same harm-reduction spirit that runs through all of his work. Shaun J Apple helped administer Bluelight, one of the largest harm-reduction forums on the internet, and the lived experience under these poems is real, not a pose. It is the shattered continuation of Eons In A Moment, and it reads perfectly well alone. Coinages and fractures are preserved exactly, because the breakage is the point.
