Ardenhale does not conquer. It draws.
Ninety-nine boundary stones, ruled dead straight across the high north, cut through the oldest migration route the wolf ranges have. Forty years of border killing followed. Now there is a treaty to end it — and the treaty’s binding clause is a marriage.
Under the moonwrit, the written law that licenses every second shape in the north, two courts are bound by splitting a name. The wolvish signatory’s silvered name is cut in half, and the other half is set at his bride’s throat. From that hour his life, and the life of every wolf in his range, is collateral held inside her body.
No Chartered House will give a daughter to wolves. So they give them Maren Ashcombe: a junior surveyor, unchartered, illegitimate, and cheap enough to spend.
Vare of Sennoch never wanted a wife. He wanted a peace, and this was the only surety Ardenhale would accept. He is exacting, unreadable, and negotiating from the moment they meet — and Maren, who has spent twenty-four years being useful to people who would not write her name down, does the one thing no one in the north has ever done to him.
She asks to see the instrument.
What neither of them knows is that Maren has carried a second shape since she was six years old, and nobody ever wrote her name for it. Under Ardenhale law that makes her a criminal. Under the moonwrit it makes her unwrit — and an unwrit bride voids the treaty, strikes the split name, and takes seven thousand wolves out of the law with her.
They have one season, a marriage neither of them chose, and a bond that is not fate.
It is a contract. And a contract can be read.
The Treaty of Teeth opens The Long Truce, a four-book epic werewolf romantasy: rival courts, a marriage of alliance, a slow burn from enemies to devotion, and a magic system with rules, limits, and a price paid in the one currency nobody can counterfeit. Dual POV. A complete story with an earned hook — not a cliffhanger.
