Working distance is an optometry term: the narrow band between too close and too far where a page finally resolves into focus. After retinal surgeries narrowed his, Shaun J Apple kept running an entire working life from rented cars and temporary rooms across roughly one hundred countries over twenty-five years. This is not a digital-nomad guide. It is an honest field report on the discipline that keeps a moving life running, the unreliable body that crosses every border with you, and the fixed points that give freedom its true gravity: children on another continent, family behind closed doors, and love a flight away. Clear-eyed, intimate, and unsentimental, Working Distance is for readers of literary travel writing, remote workers who distrust the glossy brochure, and anyone building a life in motion around illness, family, or work.
