London greets Captain Benedict Marchmont in October 1815 with indifferent bustle - as if nothing had happened, as if no Belgian field named Waterloo lay between the man who marched out and the one who returned. Benedict counts. Steps, windows, the time between two church bells - a quiet habit that keeps at bay the images he brought home from the front. But a home cannot be ordered into numbers, and the people who waited for him ask for something harder than any battle: that he face what the war left behind in him. The moving finale of "The Wyndham Season" - a tender, hopeful Regency story of homecoming, invisible wounds and a love patient enough to wait.
