War made them enemies. Fate had other plans.

Diggory didn't care when the royal family came out as werewolves. Then his mother died. His father became a Hunter, and the cruelty of the nobility, brushing the faults of their own under the rug, threatened to swallow the young warlock whole.

A decade of war led to a rocky truce, but as the newly crowned King Baldric announces a more transparent and fair government, he also pledges to embrace werewolf tradition — starting with a mating run.

It's the perfect opportunity. With the wedding to follow, all noble families will attend, and in a single strike, the injustices of the truce can be undone, paving the way for true victory.

Except the king might actually be Diggory's fated mate.

Baldric watched his family burn. Only he and his sister escaped the ransacking of the palace, and alongside the agony of their screams, he remembers the demands for justice which seemed so hypocritical in those moments.

A long war taught him the hard truth — his family allowed merciless wolves to stay in power. His father covered murders, paying weregild as if that could raise the dead. It was that reality which brought him to peace talks when most werewolves wanted absolute domination. The mating run will be a balance. A chance for true love while offering hope that even the lowest could rise to a position of respect.

He never imagined he would actually find his soulmate. Never considered his mate's wants might differ from his own, or that the match to his soul could hold him responsible for the injustices Baldric desperately sought to stop.

Can these two enemies find common ground? Or will Diggory carry out his fatal plot?
