The largest study ever done on the menopause transition followed 3,302 women for seventeen years. Among women with frequent hot flashes, the median duration was 7.4 years far longer than the two or three years women had been told to expect.
For Black women, it was 10.1 years.
That was measured, not guessed. Half of the Black women in the study had frequent symptoms for longer than a decade and almost nobody was told.
