The bond was never a sacred union. It was a tether—and he is about to break it.

For twenty-seven years, Kael Varn believed in the mountain order. Rising from a servant boy in the drafts of the Hollow to a honored rider of the high slopes, he swore his life to his silver dragon, Nyx. But inside the ancient stone walls of the Threshing Oath Chamber, Kael prepares to commit a crime that will either free his dragon or destroy them both.

Beneath the sacred sigil of the wing and claw, Kael uncovers a horrifying truth hidden deep within the Kaelen family archives: the ancient oath the priests call a "partnership" is actually a deadly tether—a spell designed to bind a dragon's wild power to human control like prey staked for wolves.

Nyx didn't choose him; he saved her when she was a broken, feverish hatchling abandoned on the slopes. Now, armed with forbidden counter-words discovered in a long-buried text, Kael must risk everything to sever the dark magic holding her captive. But as rival riders gather, family secrets unravel, and betrayal looms over the frozen mountain lodge, Kael and Nyx face a deadly choice: submit to the oath, or burn the kingdom's traditions to the ground.
